I stayed in a hotel near eiffel tower last year. Beware of con artist in the vicinity of the tower!
The first day someone touched my shoulder and said we (me and friend) have dropped something. It turned out to be a gold ring.
It wasn’t us, but my friend said yes, and tried to get it back from the guy. The guy then said… well since he has helped us, why not give him some money.. (not much)
Since my friend expect the gold rings to be expensive (it looks exopensive) she paid EUR 10 to this guy…
We were happy… because not only we got great views from the tower.. but now we have gold ring too.
The next day, we went there again for the second time…to take some pics for our univ mag.
Then guess what!
A women touched my shoulder and told me that we have dropped something (a gold ring).
We both laughed…. then when we got to the hotel and examine the gold ring we got yesterday… it became obvious that we have been conned!!

I have to agree with you, a holiday home in France is certainly the way to go. If you live in the UK the prices are also quite low due to the exchange rate. In my experience, the best holiday homes are in areas like Nice. I work in Nice a lot of the time and some of the holiday homes around are simply stunning.
